Houston at Miami
This is an intriguing matchup, as its two of the plethora of 7-7 AFC teams squaring off. The Dolphins protect much better, while generating more sacks. Houston has moved the ball more effectively, and has allowed slightly fewer yards per game. Miami is more efficient in the red zone, especially on defense. The Texans possess the superior turnover differential. This should be a close one. Final score 28-27 Miami.
Jacksonville at New England
If he's capable of suiting up, this is Fred Taylor's opportunity to stick it to his former team. (I don't think he will play, because the Patriots will save him for the playoffs. Even if he does, it will be in limited action, and he'll be rusty.) New England is superior in pass protection and generating pressure- which says something, because the Patriots pass rush hasn't been up to their standards this season. The Patriots move the ball more efficiently, while possessing a sturdier defense. Jacksonville is slightly more effective scoring touchdowns in the red zone, while the Patriots hold the edge on the defensive side of the ball. New England also has a more impressive turnover differential. Final score 31-21 New England.
Tampa Bay at New Orleans
A divisional game with teams on either end of the spectrum. New Orelans protects better, generates more pressure, moves the ball much more effectively, superior on both sides of the ball in the red zone, and has a monster edge in turnover differential. The Bucs played well last week, but I think the Saints are seering following their loss to Dallas last week. Final score 41-17 New Orleans.
Carolina at New York Giants
Both teams were dominant in their victories last week. The numbers are very similar, as well. The protection is about even, they've allowed about the same amount of yards per game, and the turnover differential is identical. New York has created more pressure, is slightly more efficient in the red zone, and has moved the ball more effectively. The Panthers have a superior red zone defense. For those of you out there that are fans of smash mouth football, this is the game for you. Final score 21-17 New York.
